For weeks, rumors have circulated suggesting NeNe Leakes might join Season 4 of The Traitors US. Now, NeNe herself has addressed the speculation during a candid interview on the Humble Brag podcast with Cynthia Bailey and Crystal Kung Minkoff, providing clarity on why she ultimately declined the offer.
“Yes, I was asked to do Traitors,” NeNe confirmed, also revealing that Tamar Braxton was similarly in discussions for the upcoming season. However, despite the buzz, NeNe Leakes made it clear that financial considerations were not a factor in her decision.
“Money wasn’t the issue,” she stated firmly.
Instead, her priority is her family, particularly her son’s health. “I couldn’t do Traitors because my son’s in the hospital, and he’s still in the hospital,” NeNe shared. “My son has been in the hospital since May.”
NeNe’s son, Brentt Leakes, has faced significant health challenges over the past few years. After suffering congestive heart failure and a stroke in 2022, he underwent a heart transplant in 2024. Sadly, NeNe disclosed that his body began rejecting the new heart, and medical teams are now working to ensure the transplant is successful.
This heartfelt revelation underscores NeNe’s commitment to her family above all else and provides a deeper understanding of her decision to step back from the show.
