Reality TV isn’t known for being subtle, but not even The Real Housewives of New Jersey could prepare Teresa Giudice for the curveball she faced on live television last week. During what was expected to be a routine appearance on Chicago’s WGN Morning News, Giudice stunned viewers by abruptly ending the interview after being asked about her past legal troubles.
“Okay, I’m hanging up,” Giudice said on-air. “Let’s just hang up. That’s it.”
The moment quickly went viral, drawing reactions from fans and fellow Bravo stars alike. But one person firmly in her corner is longtime friend and castmate Dolores Catania. On the June 23 episode of the Two T’s in a Pod podcast, Catania defended Giudice’s decision to cut the interview short.
“I think that she was so taken back because when we speak to people — literally a news station — we’re not expecting that from them,” Catania said. “I would never expect that. We don’t expect that from anyone. I was taken back, and I think that she was so taken aback [that] she wasn’t ready.”
The interview in question took a sharp turn when host Larry Potash brought up Giudice’s past legal issues. Potash later joked that his guest clearly “didn’t like that question.” But for Catania, the exchange crossed a line.
“He threw her off and it was nasty,” she said. “[Teresa] walked off once before. … Teresa does not like somebody to try to make a fool out of her. She knows when that’s happening. … That was rude. I felt bad for her. Just so you know, for whatever it’s worth, Larry, I’ll never come on that show.”
Tamra Judge, cohost of the podcast and star of The Real Housewives of Orange County, also weighed in. While she admitted she would’ve handled it differently, she agreed that the tone of the interview was unexpected.
“I would have just said, ‘For me personally, since you brought it up, yeah, it’s a situation we’re dealing with. End of story,’” Judge said. However, she added, “If you are taking your time to go on somebody’s podcast or an interview, you’re not expecting to get attacked.”
@allabouttrh_podcast Teresa Giudice appeared on a morning show expecting a professional interview — but instead was met with condescending questions and disrespect from the very host who invited her. As for Giudice, she has yet to address the backlash in detail, but with friends like Dolores Catania in her corner, it’s clear she’s not facing it alone.
