The legal saga surrounding Real Housewives of Potomac star Karen Huger is nearing its final stage as her sentencing approaches. As the reality star awaits the judge’s decision, her legal team has come forward to offer insight into her case. Recent court documents, accessed by the Washington Post, reveal the differing perspectives of both the defense and prosecution regarding the appropriate punishment for Huger’s actions.
David Martella, Huger’s defense attorney, expressed that the experience was deeply humiliating for his client. In his statement, he explained, “She was shocked with embarrassment,” adding, “She could not turn off the testimony or the body cameras. She could not get up and walk out of the room… The trial was a wake-up call.”
In the aftermath of the trial, Karen Huger checked into a rehabilitation center for a 28-day program, which caused her to miss the Season 9 reunion of RHOP. After completing her rehab, Huger returned home and resumed her commitment to recovery by attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings on a daily basis. Furthermore, her attorneys have shared that Karen Huger’s past experiences with sexual assault during her college years have had a long-lasting impact on her mental and emotional well-being.
