Kandi Burruss’ time on The Real Housewives of Atlanta is coming to an end as the longtime Bravoleb announces her exit from the franchise after 14 seasons.
While arriving at the 2024 GRAMMYs, Kandi Burruss announced that she is exiting the Bravo series after 14 seasons.
“I’m not really keeping up right now,” the RHOA star told Variety when asked for an update on season 16 of the hit Bravo franchise.
“I’m not keeping up. I already said it, so I’ll tell you. I decided I’m not coming back this year,” Kandi Burruss continued. “It’s been 14 seasons, and they allowed us to sit around for a little too long, but during that time I had started working on a lot of other things, and I got some nice big projects coming soon, so I’m super excited about those things.”
She added, “But it’s not just that. It’s just like, you know, after you really have time to think, and a friend of mine was like, ‘Why do you keep doing it?’ And I was like, ‘Well I think because I’ve just been doing it so long, feels weird to think not to do it?’ So I was just like, You know what? I’m going to take a break, I’m going to take a moment… I’m not coming back this year.’”
Kandi Burruss joined RHOA during season 2, which aired in 2009. She is currently the longest reigning star on the franchise, starring in a total of 14 seasons which is longer than any other Atlanta Housewife.
As of 2022, Kandi has starred in six Real Housewives spinoff series including The Kandi Factory, Kandi and the Gang, and Kandi’s Wedding.
The future of RHOA remains up in the air at the moment. For months rumors have been swirling that Bravo was planning a Real Housewives of New York style reboot for the Atlanta franchise.
In August 2023, Love B Scott reported that a full reboot is in the works for RHOA. At the time sources revealed that in the middle of filming the RHOA season 15 reunion, production decided to recast the entire cast for season 16.
Meanwhile, a separate source told Entertainment Tonight on that same month that “a major shakeup is coming” to RHOA. The current RHOA cast, which includes Kandi Burruss, Kenya Moore, Drew Sidora, Shereé Whitfield, Marlo Hampton, and Sanya Richards-Ross, have been warned to “expect a big change.”
“They hinted at a reboot like ‘New York’ got, but it also could be moving forward with only a couple of the current stars,” a source told ET. “The cast is on edge about their future and has no idea where the network plans to go. Although their ratings are still strong, the network is listening to fans and their desire for a change.”
Around the same time, other outlets insisted that while Bravo is considering a reboot nothing official had been decided.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta closed the chapter on season 15 back in September when the reunion aired. Since then Bravo has not shared any news on season 16.
Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
